Wooworths is digitally revising the academic program

Woolworths went digital with its Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tour.

The retailer says the tour was the first national program of its kind when it began in 2018. To date, more than 260,000 Australian high school and early childhood education center students have participated in the business experience.

With a top-down redesign of the program, students can now take a virtual tour of a Woolworths store with immersive AR and VR activities.

Developed in collaboration with educators, food scientists and nutritionists, Woolworths allows students to virtually enter an Australian farm to learn how fresh food is grown and meet some of the farmers who sell fruit to Woolworths shops across Australia and deliver vegetables.

Woolworths Chief Marketing Officer Andrew Hicks says the company is committed to helping families make healthier, easier lifestyle choices.

"A great way to do this is by educating younger Australians about where the food is coming from, the food production process, Australian suppliers and producers, and the need to support a sustainable future," he says.

“Our new Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tour achieves all of this using technology to create a fun learning experience.

“Taking part in the Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tours online also allows teachers to virtually bring the curriculum to life, even when students are studying from home.

"Young Aussies can discover the importance of how their fresh food gets into our stores and help them develop healthier relationships with fruits and vegetables."

Classroom kits

Similar to the Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tours' book a tour program in store, schools interested in participating in the new digital program can request a free classroom kit. This contains all the necessary materials and lesson plans, as well as access to a supporting Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tours app.

The introduction of the new digital program begins with grades 5 and 6 and will be available for kindergarten through grade 4 from the beginning of 2022.
