Process steam and heat transfer specialist Fulton has launched SCOPE, a brand new PLC-based boiler sequencing control system that can be used to optimize installations to ensure energy efficient operation and improve boiler life.
With many plants running multiple boilers for their processes, SCOPE is a universal control system suitable for sequencing up to four steam boilers and retrofitting to existing vertical and horizontal fuel boiler plants, including Fulton's own range of existing and planned products and those made by other boiler manufacturers.
For Fulton, Managing Director Carl Knight says: “The intelligent sequencing of SCOPE to provide redundancy and reliability can generate significant savings by automating start-up and shutdown processes, controlling and optimizing the pressure or temperature of the main steam manifold and ensuring the steam supply is accurate matched to the required process and the load distribution on the boilers balanced, which avoids considerable losses from repeated starting / stopping of the burners. "
At start-up, SCOPE has a high-resolution touchscreen that is used for system programming and display of the boiler status. The values displayed include ignition rate, fault history and TDS value logging. SCOPE also enables remote access so that service technicians can check the boiler status and / or alarm conditions as well as the functionality of the control system depending on the process requirement.
Additional features include pre- / post-run control of up to four boilers; multiple setpoints for lead, assist lag and banked control; Steam head pressure monitoring with alarm warning function for low / high alarm; automatic switchover of the bank / follow-up boiler in the event of a fault or increased steam requirement; Automated slow-opening steam valve control to support the safe operation of the boiler priority, the emergency steam valve and / or the boiler shutdown; Hot-well temperature control; and boiler status, steam flow and logging of the temperature of the hot well container.
