Gong Grocer welcomes 12 months of the Horse

Gong Grocer Asian Supermarket is turning its shop floor into the destination to celebrate Lunar New Year.

The store, located at Sydney’s World Square, will be celebrating with a mix of in-store activations and seasonal offerings, including:

  • In-store promotion. Spend $60 and receive a token to spin the Lunar New Year Gacha Machine, with guaranteed prizes (2-17 February)
  • Weekend tastings. In-store tastings every weekend leading up to 17 February (Lunar New Year Day).
  • Seasonal limited-time products. A curated range of Lunar New Year biscuits, cakes, and snacks that are traditionally enjoyed during the festive period.
  • Lunar New Year hampers: Curated hampers available for gifting throughout the season.

Gong Grocer will also host cooking demonstrations from beloved local businesses and chefs, fortune telling sessions, and showcase experiences with some of its long-time collaborators, including chef Brendan Pang, and brands 12Cake, Ommis, specialty Japanese sakes, and more.

Lunar New Year falls on 17 February 2026, ushering in the Year of the Horse. The occasion is celebrated in communities across Australia. Prominent festivals include the Sydney Lunar Festival (14 February – 1 March), which will feature the return of the Lunar Lanes in Haymarket, Sydney Lunar Streets, and a 12-metre installation of the Fire Horse in Dixon Street; and Cabramatta Lunar New Year (28 February) in Sydney’s west, featuring cultural performances, traditional food, lion dances, and interactive activities.
