I have received many emails from people who want to start 2020 in a healthier, environmentally friendly way that is good for their family and the environment. The problem is that sometimes it takes too much effort to be natural. Here are some really easy ways to get started.

Removing harmful chlorine bleach from your home is a good place to start.

MAKE YOUR OWN BLEACH TO CLEAN

It is possible to make your own effective bleach for cleaning and disinfection.

2 cups of hydrogen peroxide

2 cups of water

2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Mix in an opaque (dark colored), opaque container, as peroxide is broken down by light. You can reuse the bottle in which the peroxide has penetrated if it is large enough. Be sure to label whatever you use.

For cleaning wash basins, showers and toilets.

This is too strong for laundry. Use it only for cleaning so you don't remove any paint.

MAKE YOUR OWN BLEACH FOR THE LAUNDRY

This is a safe and effective all-purpose bleach for all of your laundry.

Mix in an opaque or dark container that is not clear. Peroxide is broken down by light. I reuse a bottle of fabric softener or detergent and label it.

½ cup of hydrogen peroxide

2 tablespoons of lemon juice

3 – ¼ cups of water

5 drops of tea tree oil or essential oil

Combine and use chlorine or chlorine-free bleaching as usual

NATURAL DISINFECTANT SPRAY

½ cup of white vinegar

½ cup of cheap vodka

12 – 15 drops of lavender essential oil

12 – 15 drops of lemon essential oil

1 ½ cup of water

Pour all of the ingredients into a labeled 24 oz. or larger spray bottle.

Spray on all hard surfaces. Let the area stay wet for 5-10 minutes.

Wipe with a microfiber cloth

This mixture is antibacterial and antiseptic and prevents the growth of germs.

Disinfectants are not spray-and-wipe, they have to sit on the surface to do their job.

If you prefer, you can switch the essential oils to basil and rosemary

NATURAL CLEANER

½ cup of baking soda

¼ cup of borax

30 drops of pure tea tree oil

Mix the ingredients well to distribute the tea tree oil.

Place in a covered container or shaker. A redesigned container for grated cheese works just as well as a sugar shaker from the $$$ Store.

Use this like any other detergent. It won't scratch.

The tea tree oil offers antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Zitronenentfetter

2 cups of water

2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice or lemon juice in bottles

½ teaspoon of Dr. Bonners Castile Soap

1 – tablespoon of baking soda

Pour the ingredients into a spray bottle of 24 ounces or more

shake

APPLICATION: Spray the surface and wipe it with a microfiber cloth

USE THIS ON: All hard surfaces except wood. Stores up to 6 months
