CSIRO, Australia's National Science Agency, is now working with food manufacturers and retailers to make it easier for time-tight consumers to choose nutritious ready-made meals.
The meals are in line with the successful CSIRO Low Carb Diet and Lifestyle Plan.
Be Fit Food is the first to partner with CSIRO to develop and deliver meals specifically designed for the CSIRO low carb diet.
Meals are labeled with a label indicating that it is a meal suitable for the CSIRO Low Carb Diet.
Branded ready meals have been formulated and independently tested to ensure rigorous benchmarks have been met to meet the food and nutritional specifications of the science-based CSIRO Low Carb Diet.
Grant Brinkworth, senior research scientist at CSIRO, said CSIRO, through decades of nutrition and health research, understood the barriers that can keep people from improving their nutritional quality.
"We know that lifestyle factors such as time and budget pressures and the growing rate of single-person households are fueling high demand for ready-made meals," says Professor Brinkworth.
“In Australia, our diet is getting worse and worse. Of the top 20 causes of death in Australia, 14 are lifestyle-related, with type 2 diabetes being one of the fastest growing chronic diseases adding to these staggering numbers.
"As people are looking for convenient food solutions, it is important to make the healthy solution an easy option."
The CSIRO Low Carb Diet is an energy-controlled, nutritionally complete nutrition plan that contains fewer carbohydrates and more protein and healthy (unsaturated) fats.
Compared to ready meals currently available in the Australian market, meals labeled "Meal Suitable for the CSIRO Low Carb Diet" contain an average of 68% fewer carbohydrates and 55% less sodium.
"In a world full of food noises, few diets have passed the rigorous clinical testing and research that the CSIRO low-carb diet offers," says Professor Brinkworth.
Clinical studies have shown that the CSIRO low-carbohydrate diet and lifestyle plan enables sustained weight loss and greater improvements in blood sugar control over the long term, as well as a reduction in diabetes medication needs and heart disease risk factors compared to a traditional high-carbohydrate plan. Low-fat diet.
Kate Save, Co-Founder and CEO of Be Fit Food, welcomed the partnership with CSIRO.
"The new Be Fit Food Lifestyle range has been specially developed to follow the exact science of the CSIRO low carb diet," says Ms. Save.
“The range is a tasty and convenient way to enjoy the benefits of the CSIRO low carb diet without having to cook.
“Our philosophy is that food should be the first drug to achieve optimal health and the prevention and treatment of weight-related diseases.
"We are excited to partner with CSIRO to offer delicious and nutritionally complete meals that will help people achieve healthier lifestyles."
The first ready meals that conform to the CSIRO Low Carb Diet are available now.
