You will need
To unlock and change your UPVC window handle, you will need:
1 screwdriver
1 window handle the same if not similar to the window handle you are replacing
1 thin knife or piece of metal
1 tape measure
Step 1: The first step is to unlock the window handle. You'll need to grab the thinnest knife you can find in your kitchen or a very thin piece of metal, like the one on the back of a tape measure. Place the knife between the places where the window handle moves. This can be seen in the picture below. Once the knife is in place, the latch should be released so you can unlock the window. Disclaimer: This technique for unlocking UPVC window handles doesn't always work, but it does about 60% of the time.
Step 2: Once the window is unlocked, remove the screw cover on the top screw. Take your screwdriver and remove the screw.
Step 3: Repeat the last step for the bottom screw.
Step 4: Once both screws are removed you should be able to remove the handle.
Step 5: Once the handle is removed you need to measure the spindle size. So take a tape measure and measure the spinel.
Step 6: The next step is to grab your spare handle along with the correct size spindle. Insert the spindle into the handle, then insert the entire window handle in the place where you removed the old one.
Step 7: Next, take your 2 new screws and the screwdriver and tighten them. Then take the 2 screw covers and insert them to cover the screws.
Step 8: Next, test the window handle to make sure it is working properly by opening, closing, and locking the window multiple times.
