Community support

It also supports local groups like Gift of Bread and The Food Pantry Marrickville through Coles & # 39; long-term partnership with SecondBite.

"We look forward to working better with these two wonderful local charities to reduce food waste and feed vulnerable members of our community," said Cauchi.

The Food Pantry, operated by the Addison Road Community Center in Marrickville, will be one of the first charities in Australia to set up a “zero waste, zero emissions” kitchen for rescued food thanks to a $ 165,000 grant from the Coles Nurture Fund .

Focus on sustainability

The new Marrickville store will also advocate sustainability with doors on most refrigerators, soft plastic recycling options for customers through REDcycle, and reducing food waste through partnerships with the food rescue organization SecondBite and its community partners The Food Pantry Marrickville and Gift of Bread.

Extension of the Marrickville Metroville

As Marrickville's population continues to grow and is expected to reach around 437,000 people by the end of 2021, the Marrickville Metro has designed its new space to meet the growing demands of the local population.

"Our vision for this development was to create an inclusive space that would provide comfort and lifestyle options for residents of our local community," said Dean Young, manager of the Metro Center in Marrickville.

Around 40 new retailers will be added, including lifestyle, fitness, beauty and convenience offers.

The fresh food area will be anchored in the new Coles supermarket. The Asian specialty store Miracle Supermarket and the grocer Panetta Mercato are moving from another location in the center and are being complemented by a variety of specialty stores, including a new fish shop, butcher shop and chicken shop.

The established section of the Marrickville Metro is also home to an Aldi and a Woolworths market, which was considered the flagship of retailers for innovative concepts when it opened in 2018.
