About this tip:
3 quick steps to keep your DISHWASHER CLEAN
3 quick steps to keep your dishwasher clean
How one:
- First, clean the drain filter. Every brand of dishwasher is slightly different. There will likely be a cylindrical, removable filter that will drain all of the water in the bottom of the dishwasher. If in doubt, consult your operating instructions.
- To access the filter, remove the lower rack, reach into the filter, and rotate it out. Wash the filter in your sink with soap and hot water. It can be difficult to reach all of the interior parts with a rag. Hence, you should use a bottle brush. Rinse it out and put it back in the dishwasher.
- Pour 1 cup of distilled white vinegar into a bowl and place on the top rack of the dishwasher. Make sure the dishwasher is empty when you clean it this way. If you don't like the smell of vinegar, add a few drops of an essential oil to the vinegar.
- Let the dishwasher run on the longest cycle. Stop it in the middle of the cycle and let the vinegar water sit for 30 minutes. Set a timer to remind you to go back.
- Restart the cycle and let it finish
- Then sprinkle a cup of baking soda over the bottom of the dishwasher. This time the dishwasher should run on one of the shortest cycles available. To dissolve all of the baking soda, the water should be as hot as possible.
- Run an additional cycle.
- After that, the dishwasher should be clean and smell fresh.
Warnings and Precautions:
The dishwasher should be empty during cleaning
Clean the dishwasher filter at least every two months. Food and dirt get trapped in it, and you wash your dishes in dirty, stinking water.
Why it works:
The vinegar removes greasy and dirty film left by dirty dishes, and the baking soda removes odors
