What do you think of when you think of Christmas dinner?
IGA has released its "Taste of Summer" research which identifies Aussie's favorite Christmas dinner. The winner is the classic leg of ham!
The information provided by YouGov and commissioned by IGA as part of the IGA Christmas Course Index to uncover the eating habits and trends of the Australian Christmas season has shown that almost half of the Australian population will have a traditional ham leg at Christmas.
The top 10 most popular Christmas dishes are:
- Smoked ham / leg of ham – 43%
- Fresh seafood – 28%
- Christmas cake / pudding – 26%
- Baked vegetables – 22%
- Salad – 22%
- Fresh fruit – 21%
- Roast pork – 21%
- Chocolate – 20%
- Pavlova – 18%
- Potato salad – 15%
“The legendary ham has always had a special place on the Australian Christmas tables. IGA's award-winning ham is flying off the shelves. So it's no surprise that it comes out on top as the most popular Christmas dinner, ”said IGA retailer and IGA National Retailer Council Chairman Joseph Romeo.
“Like so many Australians, I look forward to spending more time with my family at the dinner table this Christmas and 1,400 independent family-owned IGA stores across the country work tirelessly to ensure that locals get everything they need without the extra IGA Stress associated with the festive season. "
