If you are someone who experiences rapid facial hair growth, you know that shaving regularly can be a chore!
This is true whether you have a carefully manicured beard or keep your face clean-shaven. It's a necessity since a neat beard is attractive and a messy beard is not, and the male grooming product market has seen a massive explosion of fresh and innovative products in just a few years. If you shave wet you are a brave man! It's a great way to shave clean, but time consuming and the slightest slip can be costly! For this reason, electrical devices for shaving and trimming beards have become popular. Practical, efficient and easy to use, they save time and effort and are more secure in many ways. But the market has come a long way in the last few years with some clever technology that enables even more efficient trimming.
One product that caught our eye is the Philips Norelco OneBlade, a new eye-catching razor / trimmer design from the electronics giant. What is the Philips Norelco OneBlade and how does it work? We'll look at that here.
Philips Norelco OneBlade basics
Take the Philips Norelco OneBlade in your hand and it looks and feels like a slightly bulkier version of your favorite wet razor, with the nice grip on the handle and a balanced, weighted feel. In fact, the handle seems oversized compared to the cutting knife as it must contain the battery, but it is the knife itself that is full of innovations and has received high praise. You can check out this OneBlade review if you want to dig deeper as we are more interested in how it does its job.
Take a close look at the head of the Philips Norelco OneBlade. What you'll notice first is the row of light green teeth that sit on the leading and trailing edges. This is a clever innovation designed to trap the hair as you move the blade over the skin. Even smarter, the teeth are coated so they can move easily over the skin without irritation, which is a welcome touch. The sharp blades behind the teeth cut wonderfully and since the blades and teeth are both in front and behind, you can use the Philips Norelco OneBlade in both directions. This is a very unusual quality for an electric razor and trimmer that rivals are sure to scratch their heads about. The hatched metal plate in the center of the head gives the movement a better smoothness, and a fully flexible head is designed to move with the face over the contours and cut tightly and quickly.
All in all, the Philips Norelco OneBlade is a cleverly designed beard trimmer and razor that isn't as expensive as you might think, but has any downsides? There is one, but there is a good reason for it.
Disposable head
The fact that beards are very much in vogue right now means that devices like this are under scrutiny. So what are we talking about? It is not so much a problem as it is the result of a function. In order to keep costs as low as possible, Philips designed the head to be easy to manufacture in large quantities and to be disposable. It must be replaced once a day after about 4 months. However, we feel that the cost savings on the device itself is worth the small hassle of a new head from time to time, so we get a thumbs up!
