Fishers has confirmed that the laundry in Perth will be closed immediately with a toll of up to 84 layoffs, a Scottish Daily report said on Friday, May 29.
The news website reported that the Inveralmond Industrial Estate, which was mothballed during the Coronavirus outbreak, had conducted a consultation phase with the employees. During the consultation period, Fishers said his management team had considered a number of options to avoid closure, including a number of suggestions from his Perth staff.
The Perth plant, which serves hotels in the Highlands and Islands, among others, was particularly affected as the hospitality sector had to be closed.
Michael Jones, managing director of Fishers, said: “It was an incredibly difficult decision to close a good laundry and lose great people, many with long service. We turned every stone over and looked for alternatives, but we have to be prepared for uncertain times. "
Fishers will now consolidate its Scottish hospitality at its Cupar and Glasgow laundries. "We are working very hard to ensure that our laundries in Cupar and Glasgow are ready to ramp up production with safe distancing and increased hygiene measures in good time before the hotels reopen."
