Klopman recycles greater than eight million plastic bottles into greenwear materials

EUROPE
Klopman, European manufacturer of fabrics for workwear, has officially joined the United Nations Global Compact, which commits the company to advocating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2015. The goals are aimed at eradicating extreme poverty, spreading peace, and promoting prosperity and human development at the global level by 2030.

It is further proof of Klopman's focus on ethical business conduct, according to data in the latest 2019-2020 Sustainability Report. The report highlights key goals that have been achieved: an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of over 4,000 tonnes, an increase in substances made with sustainable raw materials by 25%, a reduction in waste volume by 40% compared to 2017-2018 and that Equivalent of Thanks to the use of recycled polyester in the production of the green fabrics, more than 8 million plastic bottles have been reused. These fabrics are also available with the “Made in Green” certification issued by OEKO-TEX®, an important independent testing and certification system in the textile sector that guarantees customers that the products have been manufactured in factories using environmentally friendly materials and environmentally friendly processes with safe and socially responsible working environments.

The company also has a system for analyzing the carbon footprint of its products, a measure that expresses the total greenhouse gas emissions directly or indirectly associated with a product as equivalent to CO2. The commitment not only continuously and transparently monitors the effects of the company's activities on the consumption of raw materials and energy, but also aims to identify and implement measures to reduce emissions or to neutralize emissions.

Klopman's commitment to sustainability is also reflected in his attention to the local economy: more than 300 new suppliers are selected locally and 8% of investments are for the health, safety and wellbeing of workers. The practice is the result of rigorous application of its code of conduct, which was drawn up according to the principles of the International Labor Organization (ILO), a United Nations agency that advocates decent and productive work under conditions of freedom, equality and security, and human dignity for men and women.

In the crisis sparked by the pandemic, Klopman has been at the forefront of responding to the needs of the national and local community by creating an Italian supply chain dedicated to the production of masks that are reusable up to 70 times and that have been donated to the Frosinone community and to the local health authority. Klopman's longstanding close ties to his territory have also continued with solidarity initiatives such as the donation of a book library for children and adolescents to the pediatric department of San Benedetto Hospital in Alatri.

"The release of the Sustainability Report is a very important moment for Klopman as it concretely conveys our stakeholders awareness of social responsibility, which has now become an integral part of our business and a fundamental element of Klopman's market differentiation" measures such as signing the Global The United Nations Compact Agreement and our assumption of carbon footprint measurement are more than just a declaration of intent. They show the direction of a company with a global focus, "says Amaury Sartorius, Managing Director of Klopman Reach, which should not only produce economic results, but above all be a social actor that can improve the lives of communities."
