McCain Foods Ballarat shoots targets as they beat the facility's 2% target recently set in Be Good. Do good. Sustainability report.

The Ballarat team has seen a 20% improvement in water use efficiency over the past 12 months.

The company's focus on growing green and gold stems from its vision of a low carbon economy in Australia and New Zealand that is focused on emissions, waste, investments in renewable electricity and more sustainable use of packaging and water.

By 2020, the team has further developed its waste minimization and recycling plan and initiated a global energy efficiency program.

“We saw that there were several ways to minimize water consumption across the site and we wanted to motivate the teams to do what they could and have led us to set another goal of 3% water reduction for 2021 and beyond, ”says McCain Foods Ballarat Potato Operations Manager Rodney McLaren.

In addition, the site has implemented a zero waste method, which defines a number of principles for avoiding waste throughout the production process.

“The program has carried out numerous energy efficiency studies, which have now been completed on our website, and we have found a number of energy saving options here, some of which have already been applied. It's great to see, ”says McLaren.

This innovative program also started with the installation of 17,000 solar modules in the facility. This created Australia's largest behind-the-meter renewable energy system and reduced the facility's energy consumption by 39%.

An anaerobic CHP digester will be installed to convert leftover food into biogas and generate energy, reducing the site's dependence on nature by 16%.
