A partnership with out waste

Yume and SUEZ work together to fight commercial food waste in Australia and are pursuing key goals by successfully selling high quality excess food.

“Several multinational companies that are also SUEZ customers have now listed high-quality food surpluses at Yume. We work with them to ensure that these products find a new way to market and are consumed as intended, ”said Katy Barfield, founder of Yume.

"These companies join our network of over 500 food manufacturers, wholesalers and importers who list and sell quality stocks through our online marketplace."

Ms. Barfield said that the partnership with SUEZ: “… has resulted in the sale of 450,285 kilograms of excess food that has returned nearly $ 700,000 to these companies, and we expect this number to grow as the market adapts to the effects of the corona virus .

"To date, Yume has provided a new path to the nearly 2 million kg of food market, giving Australian businesses and farmers more than $ 6,000,000."

Patties Foods joined the waste war and listed an excess shipment of caramel slices. "Yume has found a new way to market its caramel slices and sold the product to independent retailers and caterers across Australia for an excellent return," said Ms. Barfield.

The partnership is working to have a positive impact on the planet and has saved water and carbon dioxide, which corresponds to the saving of 519,560 showers and the annual shutdown of 195 cars. Ms. Barfield says this is just the beginning.

Justin Frank, Chief Customer Officer at SUEZ Australia and New Zealand, said: “The benefits of the partnership help SUEZ customers reduce waste and achieve greater sustainability. Our partnership with Yume is in line with SUEZ's commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals – SDG 12 – by promoting responsible production and consumption. "

Ms. Barfield summarizes: “This is an innovative partnership in the fight against commercial food waste. We want to prevent 4.1 million tons of excess food from being wasted in Australia every year. ”
