Vinnies NSW publishes a new line of recycled textiles, including donations to Vinnies shops that could not be sold in the workshop.
The new area is called re / CYCLE, alluding to the misused and circular nature of its original source.
re / CYCLE includes blankets, beach towels, tea towels, carpets, pillows and other household goods that are 100% recycled from textiles, including those that could not be resold in their original state.
"At Vinnies, our primary goal is to help people affected by poverty and deprivation, but we are also passionate about sustainability to help the environment," said Yolanda Saiz, executive director of retail, fundraising and communications the St. Vincent de Paul Society in New South Wales.
"By purchasing the beautiful household goods from the re / CYCLE range, buyers can provide financial support for our charity work and at the same time save materials from the landfill."
Worldwide, 11.7 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills every year. The circular recycling model enables Vinnies Shops to dispose of waste from landfills and reduce environmental impact by reselling used clothing and recycling fabrics when they cannot be sold.
The new recycling range will be launched in Brookvale, Sutherland, Nowra and Lavington in early June.
Revenue from Re / CYCLE sales will help people suffering from poverty, homelessness, and need, including the growing number of households who are experiencing financial problems due to COVID-19.
