While simplicity makes a big contribution to reducing clutter, it can feel sterile and cold to be too simple. Fortunately, there are several ways to add warmth to a room without having to start your interior design all over again. It can be as simple as changing the room color or adding a wall decoration for a farmhouse. The direction you go depends not only on your personal preferences, but also on the general style of your home. Adding country accents to a state-of-the-art layout may not be the best effect. No matter in which room you have to work, you know that there are cozy details that can bring the necessary warmth.
Add color
White walls look very clean, but can be very cold if there is not much else in the room. Adding a coat of paint is an inexpensive way to completely change the overall feel of a room. The possibilities are almost limitless, but a subdued natural color is always a sure thing. Adding color doesn't just have to be limited to repainting. Furniture, art and other functional elements can bring warmer colors into the room.

While hardwood floors are the modern choice for most rooms, if left completely uncovered, they can be a huge area of reverberating cold. Add a large area rug to the room to reduce the sound and add a splash of color. An empty couch can also be uninviting. Use pillows and blankets to make the seating areas more comfortable.

The lighting is obviously functional, but it can also have a subtle impact on how warm a room feels. Intense, bright and blue colored light can be quite hard and unattractive. Use light bulbs and wattages that do not overdrive. Go beyond the single ceiling light that is standard in every room and come up with alternative locations to add light. The lamp itself can also add a touch of warmth. Replace a chandelier with a natural wood chandelier or add wall lights in the same way.
Go farmhouse
The peasant style has also proven itself in modern times and is more popular than ever. There is a good reason for this – it is of course rustic, warm and inviting. The use of natural colors and exposed wood is simple, but soft and cozy. Another advantage is that you don't have to redecorate them all at once, as real farmhouses have developed slowly over time. Here are some ways to get started with this style:
- Furniture – Exposed, untreated wood and a desperate look are staples for furniture that belongs to a farmhouse. This does not mean that everything in your house has to look old. Accent tables, chairs and vanities go well with modern sofas and appliances.
- Decoration – This is probably the funniest part of this style. Finding pieces like the decor of a farm kitchen can be an exploration in itself. Stick to natural and functional pieces and don't be afraid to mix in real antiques. But don't go overboard or you will lose the look of simplicity.
- Redesign – Are you already planning a major renovation of your house and want to add some farmhouse elements? Consider an apron-style sink or a new cabinet style for the kitchen. In the large room, remember to add reclaimed wooden beams or more rustic floors.
Warming up this cold and tired place in your house doesn't have to be a huge undertaking to break the bank. With a few simple additions and design tips, you can curl up in your new favorite spot in no time.
