Tips on how to change the bathroom fill valve

A toilet is a very important sanitary product. The flushing system is the most important part of a toilet. Nothing is more embarrassing than finding that the flush doesn't work after you go to the toilet. This can happen due to the flushing filling valve. A filling valve controls the flow of water into the toilet tank. This filling valve is located on the left side of the toilet tank. It is attached to a tailpiece that extends to the bottom of the tank. The tailpiece is attached to the tube that connects it to a supply valve. This part of the toilet is also known as a ball valve. It was named after a design that was standard some time ago.

As we flush, the fill valve opens and closes many times for just one flush. And in most of our homes, we wash up many times. Through this continuous use, the fill valve will eventually wear out and will need to be changed. In general, we can use a fill valve for five years, and then it starts to wear out. So if you use the fill valve for a very long time and encounter a problem when flushing, it is high time to change it. Changing a filling valve is very easy and you can easily do it yourself. You don't have to move the tank anywhere you can do this to hold a tank in place.

Choose the best toilet fill valve to replace an old leaking toilet valve in your bathroom.

If you face the following difficulties:

  • The toilet is not or not completely flushed
  • Refilling takes a long time

Then you should change the fill valve and you will very easily eliminate these problems.

To change the filling valve successfully, you need some tools. These are:

  • Duct pliers (two pairs)

The process of changing the fill valve

1. Turn off the water and empty the toilet tank

First you need to turn off the water supply to the tank. You will find a valve where the water supply comes from the wall or from the floor. Turn the valve to the left until the water supply to the tank stops completely. Now flush the toilet and the toilet tank is empty. Now open the tank cap and you will see some water at the bottom of the tank. Wipe the water off with a sponge. If you don't, the water will be there and a water stain may appear on your bathroom floor if you lose the fill valve.

2. Remove the toilet fill valve

Now you have to remove the fill valve. To do this, you must first remove the water supply hose attached to the bottom of the tank. You can remove this with an adjustable wrench or change pliers. On the bottom of the tank there are some fastening nuts that hold the lower flange of the filling valve. Now carefully remove the nuts and remove them one by one. You need to reach the tank from the top down and pull the bottom of the fill valve through another set of fields to prevent the fill valve from turning when you turn the nuts to lose them.

3. Prepare a new fill valve

You will find a rubber washer on this kit. Now push it up from the bottom of the tailpiece. The washer holds it together and also offers an inner seal that prevents any leakage. Toilets vary in size. So you have to adjust the height of the new filling valve according to your tank height. This is also very easy to do. You only have to screw the spindle piece depending on the tank size. Make sure the top of the fill valve is slightly higher than the overflow pipe. They should not be shorter than the overflow pipe.

4. Install the new toilet fill valve

Now you have to put the filling valve in the tank. Place the fill valve where the previous fill valve was. The water outlet nipple should face the overflow pipe. You have to make sure that this doesn't work. Now hold the filling valve with one hand and thread the metal disc with the other hand. Now mount the nuts on the tank from below. First tighten the nut hand-tight and then tighten it a little further using a pair of channel pliers. You also need to make sure that the body of the fill valve is not twisted when the nuts are installed. Now connect the filling valve and the hose that supplies water. First tighten the nuts by hand and then tighten them a little more with a pair of channel pliers.

5.Connect the fill valve and make adjustments:

At the top of the fill, the valve attaches one end of the rubber fill tube to its nipple. Attach the plastic adapter to the other end of the pipe and now attach the plastic adapter to the top of the overflow pipe. Now switch on the water supply valve by turning it to the right. Make sure the tank refills perfectly or not. Check the water level and make sure it is suitable for you. There is a mark in the tank to ensure that the water does not fill through this line.

Now check the entire valve again and make sure that there are no leaks. If you find any, tighten the nuts and adjust them a little more. This will stop the leak. It will now work just as well as a new one. You haven't had to worry about the fill valve for a few years. The process was very simple and anyone can do it by following the simple steps above.
