CLEAN HARD FLOORS – As seen on 3TV / Phoenix – Good Morning Arizona – Monday, March 9, 2020 – 8:15 a.m.
A microfiber mop is my favorite cleaning tool. The mop heads are machine washable and therefore always clean. Do not use detergents, only water. I know this is a hard to accept concept, but the microfiber itself does the cleaning and removal of dirt and germs. Make sure you have a few mop heads so that you don't wipe with a dirty mop and spread the dirt.
WOODEN FLOOR:
Never use oil-based cleaning agents such as B. Pine Sol or 409, which can etch the floor. An etched floor has an uneven and matt surface
WOOD AND LAMINATE FLOOR CLEANER
Combine the following in a spray bottle with fine mist
1 cup of water
3/4 cup of vinegar
3/4 cup of isopropyl alcohol
2 to 3 drops of detergent
Lightly spray the solution onto a microfiber mop or microfiber cloth attached to a mop head.
Wipe the floor with a back and forth motion and spray more solution regularly on the mop / cloth. If your floors are very dirty or have a lot of space to cover, replace the cloth with a clean one because it is dirty. Let dry.
Do not wet the floor too much and only use a fine mist of cleaner on the mop / cloth.
CLEAN WOODEN FLOORS WITH TEA
Tea is a great cleaner because tannic acid is good for wood. It is quick and easy to clean.
Brew a very strong pot of tea.
Let cool, let warm and then put in a bucket.
Dip a soft cloth or mop in the tea and wring it out well. Use this to wipe the floor with a damp cloth. Keep the mop well rinsed in the tea.
It leaves no residue or white spots on the floor. No rinsing required
LUXURY VINYL FLOORS
These floors can withstand pets, children and tough use. For cleaning, sweeping or drying, wipe first. This removes dirt and prevents the paint from scratching. Never vacuum with a vacuum cleaner that can damage the floor.
Wash with a PH balanced cleaner like Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap. Combine a teaspoon with a gallon or two of hot water and wash it with a sponge or other flat mop. Other cleaning agents dull the floor.
CERAMIC TILE
Never use a sponge mop on ceramic tiles. It pushes the dirty water into the joint lines, which leads to dirty, stained mortar. Never use vinegar. It will etch the mortar. Vacuum or dry the mop first to remove dust, animal hair, etc. Wipe with a flat or microfiber mop wrung out in hot water. If you want to use soap, use Dr. Bronner's Castile or Sal Suds with just a few drops. More will dull the floor. If the tile is polished, dry it after washing.
On porcelain tiles you can use a brush with soft bristles with your solution if necessary.
NATURAL STONE
These are things like slate, granite, marble, travertine and limestone.
These are harder to hold and need care to avoid etching. Use a microfiber cloth or a mop and a cleaner for stone. Don't let them get dirty.
SEALED AND POLISHED CONCRETE
Dust wipers often. Dirt and everyday pursuit can tarnish these floors. This floor is best for a cleaner designed for this surface. You have to collect and remove the dirt, otherwise it will make the floor dirty and dull. Look for detergents in places like Home Depot or Lowe.
