Woolworths releases restricted version Smash Cake and Wally the Wombat for the festive season

New to the Woolworths Christmas range, the Smash Cake features layers of chocolate sponge and chocolate buttercream, and is topped with a smashable chocolate dome filled with a selection of festive treats.

For best results, the dome should be smashed while it is still slightly cold, using the edge of a wooden spoon or large serving spoon.

Woolworths Managing Director Guy Brent says: “Our newest show-stopping dessert, the Smash Cake, has been created by award-winning bakery Buonissimo Bakery in Sydney, and is made with the finest Australian ingredients.

“Designed to bring a little moment of magic and joy to young and old alike for any celebration, we hope Woolworths shoppers will feature the Smash Cake as their centrepiece dessert as not only is it fun, but it tastes delicious as well.”

The Smash Cake (RRP $35) is on shelves in select Woolworths stores and available online.

New Wally the Wombat Christmas dessert supports WIRES

Woolworths is supporting Australian wildlife this festive season with the release of a Wally the Wombat Chocolate Sponge Roll, donating $1 from each sale to WIRES, Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation.

Helping support the rescue and care of our native wildlife, Wally the Wombat is decked with Belgian chocolate decorations, and is a fun way to do good for wombats like Wally, while adding a tasty treat to family celebrations.

Woolworths Food Company Managing Director Guy Brent says: “Australian wildlife have had a rough few years between drought, bushfires, record rains and floods, and as Today’s Fresh Food People, we’re determined to help all Australians, even the furry ones.

“Our work and support for WIRES in their efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and release vulnerable and endangered native animals is one of the many ways we’re working to foster positive change in our local communities,” he said.

“Wally the Wombat will not only help our customers have fun while entertaining this season but support WIRES to nurture our native animals back to the wild.

“Our popular Reindeer Carrots are also making a return, perfect to be left out on Christmas Eve for Santa’s helpers, with 10 cents from each pack also going to WIRES,” Mr Brent said.

WIRES CEO Leanne Taylor says: “The Woolworths and WIRES Food For Wildlife program has provided carers across Australia with extensive support to take care of injured or orphaned wildlife and return them to the wild.

“We are extremely grateful to Woolworths for their support and we are thrilled with the launch of Wally the Wombat in stores to help our animals in care get back into the wild in time for Christmas”.

Wally the Wombat is made with a delicate chocolate sponge roll, filled with creamy chocolate and coated in mottled chocolate buttercream; and is available in select Woolworths stores nationally and online for $25.
