World Celebration Day marks its 25th anniversary worldwide

New data has been released by Australian Eggs showing that more than 6.3 billion eggs were consumed in the past year, cementing the humble egg's position as an Australian favorite.

This staple food plays an important role in the lives of many Australians, and every year this research shows that the public takes very seriously the important role the egg industry plays in the country.

Over the years research has shown that a large percentage of the Australian community throughout the four years of the research program has consistently expressed a positive opinion that the egg industry is important to the country.

Marking the 25th anniversary of World Holiday – a day dedicated to the humble egg – the data showed that Australians eat over 17.3 million eggs every day, an increase of 300,000 eggs per day compared to last year.

Supporting statistics from Vocqonic Community Research on behalf of Australian Eggs show:

  • 89% of parishioners agreed that the egg industry is an important part of the agricultural industry.
  • 87% of Australians agreed that the egg industry is important to the Australian way of life.
  • 77% of Australians support the egg industry in Australia.

"It's a great day to celebrate Australia's continued love for eggs," said Rowan McMonnies, Managing Director of Australian Eggs.

“It was a challenging year for Australian egg farmers, with Covid restrictions and snap-downs devastating both production and opportunities for eggs through catering establishments. The fact that egg consumption is growing by more than three million this year despite the challenges is proof of Australia's love for eggs. "

Mr. McMonnies added, “Our recently published Voconiq Community Research showed that 70% of Australians agree that the Covid-19 pandemic has made it clear to them that they need a safe and reliable egg supply.

"Access to affordable, high-quality protein and whole foods has never been more important, and eggs deliver on all of these fronts."

In addition to providing 13 different vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, omega-3s and choline, eggs are a convenient, versatile, inexpensive and delicious source of high quality protein, according to nutritionist and Director of Food & Nutrition Australia Sharon Natoli.
