A first for Amazon in the southern hemisphere is the introduction of “Print on Demand”.
The state-of-the-art printing facility enables authors and publishers to print paperback books at the Western Sydney Fulfillment Center.
With launch, customers will have access to millions of books on amazon.com.au that will be delivered to customers in Australia faster because the books are printed locally.
As soon as a customer places an order for a title registered in the program, Amazon.com.au prints the books and delivers them to them.
This eliminates the need to produce or store excess books, allowing independent writers and publishers to reach more readers.
“We are continuously improving the delivery experience for Australian customers. With our new print-on-demand feature, we can deliver millions of paperback titles to customers faster than ever, ”said Matt Benham, head of media and books at Amazon Australia.
"We're also excited about the benefits Print on Demand has brought to the thousands of Australian self-published authors who have been eagerly awaiting the launch of an Australian facility."
With Amazon's self-publishing service, Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), authors retain their copyrights in both printed and digital form. In addition, they can get to market quickly, distribute worldwide, and earn royalties.
Australian writer Christopher Cartwright adds, “The arrival of Amazon's paperback printing company in Australia is a huge milestone for Australian self-published writers like me.
"Customers in Australia can now purchase a printed copy of one of my books and have it delivered to them much faster than before. I look forward to seeing what this means for my sales on Amazon.com.au."
