The Guild of Cleaners and Launderers (GCL), in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Launderers, hosted their monthly online seminar on Zoom this week, led by Ken Cupitt, with two leading industry experts.
Richard Newton, who said positively "we will be back open," explained the procedures and provided valuable practical advice on how to store your laundry during the lockdown for easy resumption of service.
Roger Cawood followed Newton's spot with a lecture on “Textiles for cleaners: fibers and fabrics”. Cawood gave an extensive master class on almost everything anyone could ever need to know on the subject. You can find both presentations here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxAk1m9VaJg
Cawood and Dr. Richard Neale, both experts at LCN, are now working on the regular What Went Wrong feature of the dry and wet cleaners magazine, which now includes a monthly mini master class on a specific topic as well as relevant case studies. In the February issue of LCN, the duo deals with the problem of felting. In the March issue they will deal with the problem of graying.
Cupitt reported on the seminar: “We had some technical problems in the earlier part of the program that cost us a while. However, in this recorded version we have clarified that, although you will find in the presentations that our guest speakers are referring to it.
“Our next online seminar will take place on Tuesday, March 23rd, at 7:00 pm. We hope that a speaker from Richard Howarth will speak to us about 'textiles for a rental company' and that another speaker will be confirmed who will inform us about the HeiQ Viroblock, a coating for textiles that is applied in a washing machine and supposedly against the Covid-19 virus is effective.
"Once applied, this should continue to be effective for at least 30 washes at 60 ° C and up to five dry cleans on wool by providing a self-sanitizing and germ-resistant surface. This could give our industry the opportunity to add another service and help to support the fight against the pandemic. "
