MarketPlace Leichhardt is turning 50, and the party is set to last all month long. To mark this momentous occasion, the centre is giving back to the community with a program of celebrations, surprises and shared memories.
“For 50 years, MarketPlace has been part of people’s everyday lives. It’s where locals run into neighbours, where kids grow up, and where so many memories have been made,” said Janette van Straten, Centre Manager at MarketPlace Leichhardt. “This anniversary is a chance for us to say thank you to the people who’ve supported us over the years. We’re really proud to be part of this community, and we can’t wait to celebrate together.”
A $5,000 shopping spree is up for grabs throughout August, alongside giveaways, nostalgic displays and plenty of opportunities for customers to get involved.
Retailers are getting into the spirit too, with a friendly birthday window competition. Stores across the centre will decorate their shopfronts with colourful and creative displays, and customers will be invited to vote for their favourite. One winning store and one lucky voter will each take home a prize.
The centre will also showcase a collection of historical photos, inviting customers to reflect on MarketPlace’s journey through the decades.
The celebrations reach their peak on Saturday, 30 August with a birthday party to remember. From 10am to 2pm, MarketPlace comes alive with roving performers, special offers, exclusive giveaways and family-friendly fun. Shoppers who spend $20 and sign up to the database on the day will receive a limited-edition Edison tote bag, while stocks last.
Leichhardt MarketPlace will be abuzz with live music, glitter face painting, a hula hoop artist, a disco ball head dancer and gold-glazed donut giveaways, all designed to keep the good vibes going throughout the day. The centre will be adorned in black and gold decorations in a fitting tribute to the centre’s golden anniversary.
Since opening its doors in 1974, MarketPlace Leichhardt has grown alongside the community it serves. This August, locals are invited to celebrate 50 years of everyday moments, special memories and a bright future still to come.
