First Nations-owned and operated toilet paper start-up Yarn’n will now be accessible to even more Australians, with Woolworths coming on board to stock Yarn’n exclusively in almost all of its supermarkets nationally as well as online from late March 2025.
“Yarn’n is Australia’s only Indigenous-owned, locally-made and 100% recycled toilet paper company where 50% of the profits go towards First Nations education,” according to the company.
Yarn’n was founded as an e-commerce business in 2023 after a few “yarns” between mates – former builder and proud Wiradjuri man Lane Stockton and former Wallaby David “Crofty” Croft who shared a mutual interest in “sustainable toot paper” and a strong desire to give back to community and keep jobs on country.
“Proudly FSC-certified, made from 100% recycled materials and manufactured in Australia using 50% less water and 90% less energy, Yarn’n goes above and beyond to produce its high-quality, 3-ply, extra length rolls of deadly dunny paper and deliver it around Australia using the lightest of footprints,” the company said.
Driving generational change
50% of the profits from every roll of Yarn’n sold goes to The Yalari Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that provides full boarding scholarships to Indigenous children from regional and remote communities around Australia.
In 2024, there were almost 250 students on Yalari scholarships nationally and since 2005, its alumni consists of over 480 graduates who are studying at university, working or undertaking further training.
Yarn’n co-Founder and CEO Lane Stockton says: “Yarn’n was founded on mateship and a deep desire to educate, unite and inspire the next generation, so we’re delighted to have Woolworths on board as our exclusive supermarket partner.
“Our collective goal is to make Yarn’n available in more homes, businesses and workplaces across the country, creating a lasting impact and helping bring about real change for First Nations children through the incredible work of the Yalari Foundation.”
Woolworths Group Category Manager Tim Moffatt says: “Woolworths is immensely honoured to exclusively stock Australia’s first Indigenous-owned and operated toilet paper company across almost all of our supermarkets nationwide.
“Yarn’n is a fresh take on a household staple and most importantly, it is a brand with heart that is not only sustainable and locally-made but most importantly, Yarn’n proudly gives back to the next generation of First Nations children – our future leaders.”
Yalari Founding Director Waverley Stanley AM adds: “Yarn’n has always been committed to making a positive difference to the next generation of First Nations children, and this new partnership with Woolworths will mean more Aussie households can get behind the life-changing work that Yalari prides itself on.”
Yarn’n artists
Each roll of Yarn’n is individually wrapped in recycled paper with the original artwork of emerging and established First Nations artists.
Proud Eastern Arrernte and Western Bundjalung man Ambrose Killian’s artwork has been selected for Yarn’n’s Woolworths distribution.
The artwork titled “Beneath the Surface” showcases the thousand-year-old stories of how water and knowledge support life and how understanding terrain helps us all to survive in harmony.
Yarn’n Deadly Dunny Paper 8-pack (RRP $12.50) is now available at Woolworths supermarkets and online.
