With the East Coast gearing up for two weeks of sporting finals (AFL and NRL), ShopFully has investigated the quintessential Aussie staples expected to make an appearance in fan households.
In the three weeks leading up to the AFL Premiership, Shopfully looked at what Australian shoppers in each state and territory have been searching for in the ShopFully app as they look to get “the best bang for their buck” in the lead-up to the big matches. ShopFully found:
- Victorians come out on top as keen to put shrimp on the barbie, representing 50% of the searches for ‘prawns’, compared to just 15% in both NSW and Queensland.
- Lamb is set to make a strong appearance with 30% of searches coming out of each Victoria and NSW.
- Victorians love a snag, with 60% of searches for ‘sausage’ coming from the predominately AFL state.
- Off the barbie, chicken nuggets are a fan favourite, particularly in NSW, accounting for 28% of searches, followed by Queensland at 20% and Victoria at 16%.
- No get-together is any good without the beloved tomato sauce, which is a hotly searched item in NSW at 54% and Victoria at 31%.
- Over to snacks, and ‘thins potato chips’ is the go-to for NSW and Queensland representing 38% of searches each.
- For those staying dry during the matches, Coca-Cola will be the go-to drink option, with 22% of searches coming from NSW, followed by 20% from Victoria and 16% from Queensland.
In addition, Aussie shoppers have been checking and engaging with digital catalogues to find the best deals ahead of the big games, with ShopFully data finding(1), across Australia’s major retailers, the most clicked items to be:
- Coca-Cola Mini 300ml bottles were the hottest clicked product across all East Coast states, the perfect single-serve drink for any get-together
- CC’s Corn Chips ranked second in both Victoria and Queensland, coming in third for NSW
- Snags were hot in demand, being the fourth most popular item across all three states
- Pork Gyoza is another fan favourite in NSW ranking second, compared to third in both Victoria and Queensland.
ShopFully Australia Marketing Director Nick Larcher says: “Aussies are continuing to feel the pinch this year and as they look to host their family and friends for the first time back after two years of Covid-restricted finals, scoring bargains will be a sure-fire winner in any household.
