Woolworths launches new digital Tiliter AI scales

Woolworths, in partnership with Tiliter, is enhancing the shopping experience through the launch of Artificially Intelligent (AI) Scales.

The new, accessible-friendly AI Scales in the fruit and vegetables department are currently being tested across a handful of Woolworths Supermarkets nationally.

To further help customers manage their budget while shopping in-store, the scales offer a quick, convenient, and accurate reading of the product weight of fresh fruit and vegetables. Customers simply place their loose produce on the Tiliter AI Scale which will display the weight of the product on the screen.

Developed by local retail technology company Tiliter, whose product recognition solutions can be found in supermarkets across Australia, New Zealand and Europe, the new scales will replace a store’s analogue convenience scales in the fruit and vegetable department to offer customers a modern, digital alternative.

The scales are expected to be progressively rolled out across the entire network of more than 1000 Woolworths supermarkets.

“These scales will help provide a better in-store shopping experience for our customers through both accessibility and convenience.

The trial comes on the back of the partnership between Tiliter and Woolworths, first formed during the roll-out of Woolworths’ Scan & Go program in 2020.

Up to six scales will be located in the fruit and vegetable department of Woolworths’ stores and will be lined up with the front of each fresh produce aisle. “This ensures customers with special needs, particularly those in a wheelchair, can have clear access to the scales.”
