CHOICE awards Coles chocolate and traditional hot rolls best on the floor.
The taste test for hot rolls carried out by the independent consumer group CHOICE selected Coles & # 39; hot rolls with chocolate and traditional fruits as one of the top picks in the country.
CHOICE's blind taste test found that Coles won in both the chocolate and fruit hot cross buns category, with Coles & # 39; chocolate hot cross buns number one at 84% and Coles & # 39; 39; traditional fruit hot cross buns were number one at 80%. Andy Mossop, general manager of bakery, delicatessen and seafood at Coles, said Coles is thrilled with the results of the blind taste test and proves that Coles has the best buns at Easter.
“The honorable recognition by CHOICE further proves that we at Coles have some very special hot rolls. This is a testament to our hardworking bakers and teams who come to work every day and knead the perfect mixture to create our delicious buns for our customers to enjoy this Easter, ”he said.
“Our award-winning traditional coles hot cross buns still have the highest percentage of 100% Australian fruit of 27% in any individual bun, which makes them extra plump and juicy.
“For our really irresistible Coles Chocolate Hot Cross Buns, we sourced cocoa from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms. Our customers can be sure that our rolls are not only delicious, but also create better opportunities for farmers and protect the environment for the future through our sustainable practices. "
Rachel Clemons, Editor-in-Chief of CHOICE Food, said: “Coles was clearly the winner of our tests this year as their hot buns topped both the chocolate and traditional fruit categories.
“Our experts really liked the traditional Coles fruit roll and praised it for its glossy color and springy texture. If you like quite a bit of fruit in your hot bun, this is for you. The Coles Chocolate Hot Cross Bun is great for the chocolate aficionados out there. You get a good chocolate hit from this one, with lots of chocolate chips obviously.
“Our experts' blind taste tested all 21 hot rolls and rated them for taste, appearance, aroma and texture. We set up our experts in the CHOICE kitchen lab and provided them with the hot cross bun samples in a random order that is different for each expert. Our experts have more than 80 years of experience in the food industry. So they are the perfect people to test out these Easter treats. "
Coles has sold more than 30 million hot cross buns nationally since Boxing Day 2020 when they hit Coles supermarkets across the country.
Coles prides itself on using only "100% Australian fruits" in its traditional hot buns grown by Australian farmers like Ashley Johnstone from the Sunraysia area of Victoria. "Coles' traditional hot cross buns made with 100% Australian fruits are the only buns recommended for hot cross buns each year in their four years of blind taste testing (1)."
This year, Coles introduced three new limited edition flavors to spice up its core range of hot rolls:
- Brioche Rich & Fruity, made from real butter and eggs, mixed with currants, sultanas and cranberries
- Sticky Date & Butterscotch, sweet buns with sticky Persian dates and luscious pieces of butterscotch
- Raspberry and white chocolate, sweet, soft rolls, mixed with pieces of fruit with a raspberry and apple flavor and white chocolate.
The new flavors are available at Coles for $ 3.50 per pack of 4.
(1) CHOICE conducted independent blind taste tests for hot cross buns in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021, and each year Cole's traditional hot cross buns made with 100% fruit were recommended.
