Cleaning your home during the holiday season is different from regular cleaning! However, due to several factors, there are places in your home that are usually forgotten on vacation. You should remember to clean the following places on this vacation:
1. The dishwasher
During the holidays, you will use your dishwasher a lot to clean the multitude of dishes your guests leave behind. However, the dishwasher is often forgotten and can be the dirtiest place in the house as it is not self-cleaning. Take your time on vacation and really clean the dishwasher. You'll need to remove any stuck food particles, scrub the dirt, and clean the filters. You can just use a strong detergent and put the dishwasher on a warm wash. The elements will be tough during the holidays and your patio will take the brunt of them. It will make your patio dirty especially if you have furniture out there. You will likely be using the patio a lot when entertaining guests this holiday season. They also add significantly to the dirt on the patio. This is why you should make sure that you thoroughly clean the patio at least once a week. It can mean shoveling snow and scrubbing the ground on your knees, but it will be worth it.
3. Garbage disposal
The holidays are a time when people eat a lot. The more you use, the more you use your garbage disposal. While not many people will notice a dirty garbage disposal, they will definitely notice the stink. Unfortunately, garbage disposal is often forgotten during the holidays. You'll need to put on some gloves and get to work scrubbing the debris in the garbage disposal. A toothbrush and baking soda are great tools for cleaning up your trash disposal during the vacation.
4. Ceiling fans
Although you likely have an HVAC unit, many people still have fans in their homes. One area that is often overlooked during the holiday season is the ceiling, especially the fans. The ceiling fans collect a lot of dust, especially during the holiday season. If it's not cleaned, a lot of dust will build up in the rest of the house. You should use a pull-out duster to carefully clean each blade of the fan. You can also climb a ladder and clean it by hand with a microfiber cloth.
5. Countertops and doorknobs
Although these areas are located throughout the house, sterilization deserves a special mention this year especially. During the holiday season this year, don't forget to sterilize the busiest areas like doorknobs. It is very important that you are safe during the vacation, especially when you have people who may be eating on tables / countertops. You should always have sterilizing chemicals available for guests to use.
Sterilization ensures that you are protected from a wide variety of pathogens that can invade your home. However, you should do this early in the holiday season and ventilate your home so that you or your guests are not affected.
