Coles has opened its newest Coles Local supermarket format on Manly Beach, Sydney.
Among the highlights of the store is the boutique entertainment area, which is said to be tailored to Manly's laid-back lifestyle on the beach. It offers more than 500 local and international cheese specialties, smoked meat, dips, antipasti and grilled meat from the gourmet butcher field Sydney to Fork.
The store's offering has also been designed to reflect the high proportion of busy professionals living in the area who shop more regularly than a typical Coles customer. There are more than 800 ready-to-eat meals, snacks, and salads, as well as 200 vegetarian options designed to make dinner easier.
Cole's Local Manly didn't forget about pets either. According to Coles, the store offers Manly over-indexing of dog spending and has frozen ice cream for pet food, plus a scoop and weigh station of treats for dogs like kangaroo tails and crocodile sausage bites.
According to Thinus Keevé, Coles Chief Sustainability, Property and Export Officer, the deal is part of an expansion of the popular Coles Local format in Sydney. This follows NSW's launch of the concept in Rose Bay and Chatswood earlier this year.
"Coles' local supermarkets are tailored to the needs of local residents and offer a bespoke shop experience with high-quality food from local bakers, butchers and food manufacturers," says Keevé.
"Our new Manly store offers in-store innovations that customers may not have seen before and 500+ groceries perfect for a picnic or a beach BBQ."
"Our mission is to be Australia's Most Sustainable Supermarket. That's why we've implemented market-leading sustainability initiatives, including trolleys made from 75% recycled plastic. Our goal is not to waste any edible food."
On-site support
Coles Local Manly supports local suppliers and sources products directly from 35 local butchers, bakers and cafes. These include bagels from Sydney's “first real” New York bagel maker Brooklyn Bagel Boy, restaurant-quality pasta, salads and meals from Pasta Pantry, and craft sourdough bread, muffins and candy from Sonoma Bakery in Sydney.
The new store layout supports local artists and features a mural by Sydney-based artist Katherine Brickman, also known as Greedy Hen, celebrating Manly's natural beauty and coastal lifestyle.
Support sustainability
Coles Local Manly is committed to sustainability with a range of innovations in business to reduce food waste and reduce the environmental impact.
It is claimed that the trolleys are made from 75% recycled plastic. Instead of bags, recycled carrier boxes are available free of charge. Unsold food that cannot be donated to charitable organizations is used for ecological composting and green energy production.
Name tags and uniforms of team members should also contain partially recycled materials.
