Having a new carpet is a great feeling. At first you will probably be careful when you enter the room, after all a new carpet has stacks that stand up straight and have a distinct aroma. They even make air fresheners smell like a new carpet! However, over time you will become familiar with your new rug and use it regularly. This leads to the need to know how to properly clean it. Done right, it can look like new.
If you haven't decided on your carpet yet, take a moment to look at the carpet tiles. They can look and feel just as good as traditional carpets. However, if damage occurs, you can easily replace the corresponding tiles. Cleaning carpets to restore their new look is easier than you think.
Stage 1 – vacuum
You need to vacuum your carpets regularly using the carpet function on your vacuum cleaner. This ensures that the stacks are gently pulled upwards, which keeps the carpet soft and loose. At the same time, the suction of your vacuum cleaner pulls the dirt deep out of the carpet, which maximizes dirt removal. This is important, and a vacuum is much more effective than a brush. Dirt trapped in carpets moves every time you step on them. This causes it to rub against the carpet fibers, aging prematurely and weakening them. Remove the dirt and your carpet will last a lot longer.
Step 2 – washing
Vacuuming should be done 2-3 times a week to remove dirt and maintain the carpet. The carpet can be washed every couple of weeks. It is important to check which joints are best for your particular carpet. The manufacturer's website or the installer should be able to advise you on this. The secret to washing is to use as little water as possible. You can use a wet vacuum or do it by hand. Carefully work your way across the rug, starting in a corner and moving back and forth. The idea is to move with the stakes, rather than in circular motions that will damage the stakes.
Minimal water and detergent ensure that all bacteria are killed without damaging the pile of the carpet or its underlay. Ideally, you should wash the carpet in the morning and then ventilate the room for the day without using it. This will help it dry properly and extend its lifespan. If you choose the right aroma associated with your carpet detergent, you can even restore that new carpet smell. Of course, there are plenty of other flavor options worth considering.
Bonus tip
You should also note that installation is critical to the proper maintenance of your carpets. The carpet should always be placed on or as part of a clean floor with adequate insulation. This prevents it from being damaged by uneven pressure when you walk on it or even lie on it.
