How to Clog a Toilet – Fast! Here are 5 best practices, from simple to more complex methods.

1. How to clog a toilet with baking soda

To share a toilet with baking soda, it must be used in combination with vinegar. Here is the process. To create a chemical reaction that breaks blockages formed by organic matter, pour one cup of baking soda into the toilet along with two cups of vinegar. You will notice a hissing action. You should have at least half a gallon of hot water ready beforehand. Note, however, that the temperature should be roughly the same as your cup of coffee. You don't want it to get too hot or you will crack the porcelain coating that is used on your toilet, creating a bigger problem.

Once the baking soda and vinegar have been added to the toilet, it's time to pour the hot water. Make sure you pour the water from an appropriate height, e.g. B. up from your waist. This will give the hot water some zest to clear the clog. When you're done, leave the mixture on overnight and then rinse it off. If your toilet still remains clogged after this, you can try another method or call a plumber.

2. How to clog a toilet with a plunger

The classic, the tried and tested, the piston! To share a toilet with a plunger, do the following:

First, make sure you are wearing a good pair of rubber gloves (the type that comes up to your elbows). This protects you from germs that you could come into contact with. Next, make sure your toilet doesn't overflow. Do not rinse again if it does not rinse properly at first. Instead, it is best to close the hatch.

To get to the hatch, open the fuel cap and you will see a drain plug attached to a chain. Once you've done this, it is important that you prepare your bathroom floor for a splash. Just put paper towels on the floor (old newspapers will work too). This makes handling easier if something splashes on the floor while using the piston.

Now it's time to use the plunger. Here's a tip: before using it, run the rubber end through hot water to soften the rubber so it will work better. This will help achieve better suction. Now insert the plunger, making sure that it completely covers the hole, but is also slightly in the water. You want it submerged or what you push and pull is air instead of water, and that doesn't create the necessary suction. Slowly push the plunger down. Then pull it up as sharply as you can without causing a splash. This would remove anything clogging your toilet. It may take a few tries (sometimes up to a dozen or two) to clear the blockage. When the clog is cleared, rinse again to make sure everything is working properly. If it doesn't flush clear, you may need to pour in a little more elbow grease.

Note: Please make sure that you are not dealing with a hard object such as a toy that will clog your toilet. In this case, you may want to try another method, such as B. the use of a plumber's snake.

3. How to share a toilet with a snake

No, this is not your pet snake that you will be using. We're talking about a plumber's drain snake here. It is also known as an auger or flexible cleaning tool. Basically one end comes with a wire spool that you can maneuver through the twists and turns of your drainage system to get to obstacles. The wire spool has a protective rubber end to ensure that it won't damage anything while pushing and rotating to get to an obstruction. Insert the end of the snake into the drain of the toilet bowl. Next, twist and push it clockwise until you get to the obstacle.

Continue this action until you no longer feel any resistance, which means you have removed the obstacle. Flush and see if the flow is now normal. If it doesn't, you may want to try another option: use the auger in reverse. However, we recommend leaving this to a professional plumber (with the auger in reverse) as you may need to remove the toilet if you do this operation from the opposite direction. If you do something wrong it can get pretty messy. We will therefore not try to explain the process here.

If your toilet is still clogged after trying, it is best to call a plumber. You did your best, no one can say otherwise, but some jobs are only for professionals. Give your local plumbing professional a ring and have them handle it.
