Redkite and Coles want to support young Australians whose cancer diagnosis has put their lives on hold with Dare to Dream grants – applications are now open.
Coles-sponsored grants of up to $ 5,000 can be used for educational or life goals that have been disturbed due to the effects of cancer on a child's physical and mental wellbeing.
Redkite and Coles have awarded 257 Dare to Dream grants worth over $ 570,000 to young cancer patients since 2013.
The scholarships are available to children aged 13 to 18 across Australia.
Teah Stanford, an 18-year-old from Perth who was diagnosed with medullabastom at the age of just two, received a $ 3,000 scholarship in 2019 for Redkite and Coles Dare to Dream, which she dedicated to her love of wildlife photography.
"It was really shit because of all the side effects of cancer that reminded me every day that I had cancer – I was still" The Cancer Kid ". I got it over with and I'm finally on my way to something do what I love, ”explains Teah.
"When I found out that I had won a RedKite and Coles Dare to Dream scholarship, it was my year. It boosted my confidence and encouraged me to apply for a TAFE coruse that I am interested in."
Matt Swindells, Coles' Chief Operations Officer, says the Dare to Dream grants have been critical to the wellbeing of young Australians.
"We are very excited to work with Redkite to support children in cities across the country living with cancer," he says.
“We know how important wellness and mental wellbeing are for children who want to achieve their goals. These grants will give young cancer patients the opportunity to achieve their goals in an incredibly difficult phase of their lives. "
Applications were opened on Monday July 27th and close on Sunday September 6th. They are available to children between the ages of 13 and 18. To learn more or to apply for a Dare to Dream grant, visit daretodream.redkite.org.au.
