RED WINE ON CARPET OR FABRIC

Pour on club soda and let it bubble. Dab with an old towel or a block of paper towels. Still there? Mix 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of salt. Drop it on the stain and let it sit for about 10 minutes, then dab it off. Still there? Try a wine remover like Carbona Stain Devils or Wine Away Red Wine Stain Remover.

Do you have a new spill? Pour white wine and blob on top.

FOOD ON MICROFIBRE PADS: Moisten a microfiber cloth and dab the stain with light rubbing. Still there? Try a cloth dampened with alcohol. Pat and rub gently. Still there. Try Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover. Always test in an inconspicuous place. Find it in grocery stores, home centers, and large stores.

COOKING INCORRECTLY. Was something done too much when cooking? If you have a pan or casserole that's still burned, fill it with hot water and drop it on a drier softener sheet. Leave on for a few hours or overnight. Washing and drying.

Stainless steel pan with burnt or baked on fat? Use oven cleaner. Do this outside and on a broken box or paper. Follow the instructions on the can.

NONSTICK NOT A LONGER NONSTICK? Depending on the depth of the pan, fill in one or two centimeters of water. Add a handful of baking soda and bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes. Wash and then rub with a layer of olive oil. Let rest overnight and then wipe with a paper towel.

STAINLESS STEEL SINK: If your sink is stained with coffee or tea or looks dull and dirty, use Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser to save it. It doesn't scratch and is safe for stainless steel sinks. Wet the sink, sprinkle it with Bar Keepers Friend and rub it with a sponge or scrubbing sponge. When you're done, rinse it off well with warm water and wash it with a little washing-up liquid and water. Rinse and dry.
