Coles helps distant indigenous communities

Coles has partnered with Aboriginal companies and local charities to deliver and donate more than 80 pallets, or 50 tons, of food and groceries to indigenous communities across the Northern Territory.

Coles and organizations such as the Northern Land Council, the St. Vincent & # 39; s De Paul Society, the Larrakia Nation in Darwin and the Central Land Council, the Tangentyere Council and the Purple House in Alice Springs have affected more than 2,200 from the COVID Community members deliver truckloads of care packages -19 crisis across the territory.

The packages

"Passionate" support

Daniel Clegg, Coles Regional Manager, says his team has been passionate about helping remote indigenous communities that have been hard hit by COVID-19.

"The current situation in remote parts of the Northern Territory is critical and we wanted to do everything we could to provide relief and support to those who do not have access to essential goods," he said.

“Unfortunately, we know that many in the communities at that point were unable to leave their homes to gain access to essential foods and foods.

"By working with organizations such as the Central and Northern Land Council, Larrakia Nation and the National Indigenous Australian Agency, we can deliver food donations to people in need of these areas in many parts of the territory, particularly in remote indigenous areas."

Mr. Clegg added that Toll Logistics, Blackwoods and Colemans Printing in Alice Springs also made a significant contribution to supporting the initiative.

Other support

During COVID-19, Coles will also donate additional $ 1 million a week in food and groceries to Foodbank and SecondBite. In this way, they can support up to 3,800 nonprofits across Australia.

Coles employs more than 400 indigenous team members in four weeks

Coles has recruited 430 indigenous team members in just four weeks, providing urgently needed job opportunities at a time when many Australians are urgently looking for work.

The new hires increase Coles' total indigenous workforce to over 4,800 and are an important step toward the company's goal of employing 5,500 indigenous team members by 2023.
