UK retailers promote The Large Concern for the primary time

The Big Issue magazine is sold by some of Britain's most vulnerable people to help them lift themselves out of poverty. To help them, Sainsbury and McColl will sell the magazine today to help maximize sales during the COVID-19 crisis.

The magazine is available both online and in selected stores at Sainsbury's. McColls, Martins and RS McColls will have it temporarily in stock, with the magazine remaining on sale until Big Issue providers can work again.

"We are proud to support something as important as the Big Issue Group, which is there to give homeless people or people at risk of homelessness an opportunity to earn an income," said Paul Mills -Hicks, Commercial Director at Sainsbury.

"Coronavirus has affected everyone in the UK and it is important that we support each other in these increasingly challenging times."

About the big problem

The Big Issue offers homeless and vulnerable people across the UK the opportunity to earn a legitimate income.

The magazine recently had to make a decision to protect its vendor network by prompting it to discontinue street sales across the UK with immediate effect.

"We hope that by providing a means for our customers to purchase a copy of The Big Issue, we can encourage people to continue buying the magazine that so many vulnerable people rely on," said Mills-Hicks.
