Beata Stednik, better known to her friends as BB, is a private chef and freelancer who creates joy and love in all areas of life with food.
Ms. Stednik is the project manager for ADRA Casey and QV Community Café and tries to help the most vulnerable people and people in crisis.
The café started “about 6 years ago – what started with a huge pot of homemade hearty soup and a bun developed into a healthy selection of homemade meals,” explains Ms. Stednik.
“We currently offer QV meals every other Friday from 7 p.m.
“Our dining program is available to anyone who needs food and other support.
"We don't refuse to eat. you never know what happens in someone's life if you just look at him. "
"No religion, no gender, no race, no social status is important to us …"
Ms. Stednik takes pride in treating everyone equally and expresses this through the distribution of homemade meals.
The distribution takes place on the side of the road on a footpath, and the QV team provides its own tables, plates and cutlery.
The distributed meals include vegetarian meals, vegan meals, fried vegetables, rice and potato dishes, salads and grilled dishes.
The café receives food donations from companies such as Simplot, Nandos Stores, Second Bite and local Coles.
However, Ms. Stednik says that the program was unable to receive donations due to the recent pandemic.
“We have 600 customers who are begging for at least bread. We have families who eat sugar cubes and stale bread for dinner. It breaks my heart. "
Grand Prix to the rescue
"… During the week of the Grand Prix, I received a text from one of the Food & Desire chefs asking me if I would be interested in eating.
"Because I knew firsthand how many people are out there without food, I couldn't say no and waste it.
"We have made arrangements to pick it up at 8 a.m. the next day."
Ms. Stednik emphasized that the program was donated a significant amount of food by Food & Desire.
"My van was full to the roof.
"I came back home, unloaded (the van) (and) called other teams that do the same work as we did, and everything was distributed at 12 o'clock (the meal)."
"I am so grateful to Jenine, the confectioner, that she thought of Casey ADRA Café."
