When laundry gear goes to the canines

According to studies by Miele Professional, 78 percent of veterinarians are disappointed by unreliable washing machines.

Research has found that laundry equipment needs to be repaired regularly in veterinary practices. 78% of practitioners say they often suffer from unreliable laundry equipment, with failures disrupting many busy practices.

In the investigations carried out at the Vet Show 2019, almost all of those surveyed agreed that reliable laundry equipment is crucial to ensure smooth operation within their respective practices. Still, only two out of ten veterinary practices said their washers and dryers were standard.

An average day in the veterinary environment includes taking care of sick animals, dispensing medication, advising owners and processing endless amounts of laundry. If a laundry device suddenly stops working, this can put enormous strain on the practice staff and impair their ability to ensure effective patient care.

From dirty beds and towels to peels and staff uniforms, nine out of ten veterinarians process several loads of laundry a day, which shows the need for reliable and durable laundry equipment. However, there are still many practices with household machines that are not designed for larger amounts of laundry.

Choosing a commercial machine can be certain that the workflow will not be affected because commercial machines are manufactured to withstand heavily soiled laundry and frequent use. Veterinary practices can also benefit from infection control features such as disinfection programs, and at the same time know that they have been tested to Category 5 WRAS certification to meet water regulations and requirements.

Simon Hart, National Account Manager at Miele Professional, said: “Vets, nurses and practice assistants can be severely affected by unreliable laundry equipment. For example, failures can lead to unnecessary waiting times for engineers and cost. In the meantime, dirty laundry piles up and can lead to a lack of clean items – and increase the risk of cross-contamination and / or infection. "

Hart commented the show as follows: “We have heard many stories about the challenges that practices related to their laundry equipment have had, and a common theme has been the unreliability of home appliances. Visitors were interested in the benefits of commercial machinery, including the longevity and cost-saving measures they can deliver. Our range of commercial laundry machines starts with the small commercial machines "Little Giants", which fit directly into a room in which a household appliance was previously housed. This is extremely beneficial when you consider how much space is available in many practices. "
